Description: Enjoy a coffee or tea while doing art! Explore your artistic side by creating an art piece of your choice while enjoying a musical soirée with musician Sébastien Lemay. Participants will have the opportunity to accompany the musician, and to participate in a ‘jam’ session at the end of the event.
Materials: Participant may bring their own art materials or buy some at the school.

Description : Semester 1 – Introduction to Mixed Media

During the Introduction session, students learn to play with acrylics, textured pastes, ink, water and many other mediums. Students then put into practice the techniques into a work of art, starting from the composition, the superposition, adding objects and becoming aware of the different supports such as canvas or wood panels used in mixed media.

Semester 2 – Discovery / Structure in Mixed Media

It is possible to follow this session without following the introductory session.

During the discovery and structure session, students learn to work mainly with acrylic, adding texture pastes, ink, water and several other mediums. Students still practice composition, but this time they add sculpting to their artwork, adding new mediums and objects, on canvas or a wooden frame.

Required Materials: Acrylic, paint brushes, canvas, etc. A list will be provided at the first lesson and some materials will be available at a reduced price.

Description: Inspired by a story or a group game, the children are guided through the illustration of a character, animal or plant. Participants will explore drawing and watercolour painting. The story and instructions will be given in French and translated if needed. Children will have plenty of opportunities to learn new words and to practice speaking French!

Description :  Students learn to build a narrative, develop a captivating plot and create original characters. They will choose a graphic style according to their drawing skills: realistic, cartoon, comic, manga, chibi, animal etc. Students are introduced to the notions of anatomy, perspective, shadows and light, volume, facial expressions and body language. This is a long-term project that evolves from one class to another. The teacher gives the theory in groups at the beginning of the class and then accompanies each student on an individual basis, guiding them in their process of creating a comic.
Required materials : Sketch book 11×14 inches, 80 pages ligned book, HB crayon, 2B Crayon, small tip ink pencil

Description: Every class, children make a new craft. Children explore with various materials such as tissue paper, coloured paper, modeling clay, elements of nature, etc. to create three-dimensional objects. For example, the children may create a coloured paper stained glass decoration, a beaded star, a silk paper flower, a clay snail, etc.

Description: Students learn to draw animals and plants by studying their characteristics and proportions. Students learn to do shading, to mix colors, to fill in areas of the drawing, and to use a crayon stroke to evoke a volume. Teacher does short projects with the students so they can explore the creative possibilities of the medium. For example, students create three-dimensional drawings, animations, etc.
Required materials: Coloured pencils (can be purchased in school) sketch book and eraser.

Description: Students perfect their skills learned in the beginner’s class. Students observe volumes, shadows and lights to create realistic drawings of animals, plants and characters. The teacher introduces students to the principles of linear perspective and black and white drawing.

Description : Learn how to decorate an Easter egg the traditional Ukrainian way, by drawing symbols and patterns on the egg using a batik technique. Students will learn how to handle a Kistka instrument that is used to apply melted beeswax on the egg. This wax protects the designs drawn on the egg, which can then be dipped into different natural pigment dyes. This technique creates a unique and colourful “Pysanka” Easter egg.

Description :  In a relaxed but structured atmosphere, thirty methods of working with watercolour – a soft and luminous medium – will be explored. In addition, various types of paper, brushes, paint, colours and tools will be presented in order to experience the “magic” of painting and water. Some additional techniques with various inks and acrylic paint will be explored.

Description : Always in a relaxed yet structured environment, different working processes and the fascinating and soft expression of watercolor paint will be explored further. We will work with new papers (Chinese and Japanese) and new techniques, and gain access to many “tricks” and personalized advice to reveal the magic of paint and water.

Prerequisite: having followed the watercolor class for beginners or the equivalent, meaning you have basic notions of color theory, tools and composition.
